Omani held on hit and run charges

MUSCAT: An Asian expatriate was run over by a vehicle near a roundabout in Suhar.


A citizen has been arrested on hit and run charges.


The ROP said it received a call at 4 am saying an Asian expat was found dead on the road after he was run over by a vehicle. The driver fled the scene without attending to the victim.


Following investigations, the driver was arrested. He confessed to the crime.


Seven arrested: Six Asian nationals and a citizen were arrested on charges of prostitution in the Muscat Governorate.


According to the ROP, the defendants were charged with detaining three Asian women who were forced into prostitution. They were referred to the judicial authorities.


In a separate case, the Buraimi police foiled an attempt by two Asian nationals trying to smuggle in to two people in their truck to the Sultanate.


Embassy to expat’s rescue: The Indian Embassy came to the rescue of an Indian expatriate who was allegedly “trapped” in Oman by his wife’s relatives.


“The Indian Embassy mediated with the sponsor. The case of Jatinder Singh has been resolved.


He will reach Delhi on December 23,” the Indian Embassy said in a statement.
