Leading Omani businesses are exhibiting this week at Marmomacc, the world’s premier trade fair for the stone and marble industry in Verona, Italy. Led by Ithraa — Oman’s inward investment and export development agency — five large Omani marble and stone companies are participating at the four-day international show.

With over 1,600 exhibitors from 56 countries, Marmomacc is a popular international trade event for Oman’s marble and stone producers.

“Marmomacc offers local businesses great exposure and unrivalled opportunities to meet with building trade representatives. And in the first few days we’ve already had a lot of visitor traffic on our pavilion. We’re very pleased with the number of enquiries received,” explained Saif al Mamari, Ithraa’s Director of Export Facilitation Department.

Local companies exhibiting at Marmomac include: Hamood Al Rashidi & Brothers Trading Company, Gulf Stone Company, Al Shanfari Marble Company, Al Nasr Trading & Contracting Company and Al Ajmi Marble.

Commenting on his participation at Marmomacc, Hussain al Lawati, Deputy CEO, Al Nasr Group of Companies said: “We currently export to over 40 countries and we’re looking to further expand our market reach. Marmomacc is an important event for us, it’s an opportunity to make a real impression, presenting our natural marble on a global stage.”

Oman has large deposits of gypsum, limestone, marble, laterite, chromite and kaolin, and the mining and mineral sector has seen growth over the past few years. A key market for Oman’s stone and marble sector will be emerging Asia which continues to enjoy a rise in residential, industrial and infrastructural projects. Driving the Asian building spree are growing economies, increased urbanisation and young populations.

Ithraa regularly organises an Omani pavilion at Marmomacc — a presence that has proven popular with visiting international trade delegates, delivering solid commercial returns for participating Omani firms, explained Al Mamari.

Ithraa’s Director concluded: “Omani stone and marble companies attend the Verona show because they want to display their products, meet international buyers, network and increase brand recognition. And given what we’ve seen so far this week, they’re clearly on course to meet those objectives.”
