Omani camp for Rohingya refugees opens

COX’S BAZAR: The Plenipotentiary Minister Taib bin Salem al Alawi, Head of the Sultanate’s Embassy Mission in Dhaka, opened the Omani camp for Rohingya refugees in Dhaka on Thursday, in the presence of a number of officials.


The camp, of which 107 houses out of 1,000 houses and accessories have been completed, is part of the programme of charitable assistance sponsored by the Omani Charitable Organization and with the support of the Sultanate’s government.


During the opening ceremony, Alawi met with Mohammed Abul Kalam, Head of Refugees, Relief and Deportation Committee in Bangladesh, and Kevin Allen, Head of operations of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Cox’s Bazar, who praised the Sultanate’s efforts to rescue the Rohingya refugee families from the risk of landslides and heavy rains, particularly in those areas.


Head of the Sultanate’s Embassy Mission in Dhaka, hailed the efforts of the Bangladeshi government in serving the refugees. He also praised the United Nations staff for refugee affairs.


He toured the camp where he met with the beneficiary families and announced that the Sultanate will present Eid sacrifice to the refugees on the occasion of Eid al Adha.
