MUSCAT, OCT 6 - A high level ministerial delegation will represent Oman at the Regional Ministerial Conference organised by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, the United Nations Population Fund —Arab States Regional Office and the League of Arab States (LAS) in Beirut from October 30 to November 1. The three-day conference will witness delegations from all Arab countries. The delegations will present their achievements and challenges that are being faced by them in population and development issues.

Oman’s ministerial delegation will comprise delegates from Supreme Council for Planning, ministries of manpower, health, social development, education, along with the National Centre for Statistics and Information and Oman Women’s Association. “The Regional Ministerial Conference holds paramount importance not only for the high level delegations expected from Arab countries, but also for the topics to be discussed and the outcomes expected,” said Asr Ahmed Toson, UNFPA representative in Oman.

“The ICPD agenda will link with Sustainable Development Goals so that it becomes more clear in regard to the national challenges and how to face the national challenges through the ICPD,” said Salah al Saleh, Head of Programmes at the UNFPA. The conference shall provide a pertinent opportunity to engage with each member states in a dialogue on 2013 Declaration and the 2030 Agenda ahead of the 52nd Session of the Commission on Population and Development to be held in 2019.
