MUSCAT, Sept 8 – Oman national football team will take on Lebanon on Sunday in the first friendly match scheduled for the team at the Jordan camp. The match will kick off at 8:00 pm (Oman time) at Amman International Stadium. The match will be crucial for Oman and coach Pim Verbeek will use it to assess the match fitness and technical prowess of the players. The coach would be hoping that the team will be able to execute all the tactics and strategies employed in the training sessions.
The Jordan camp and the friendly matches will all be part of the national team’s preparations for their next major international assignment, the AFC Asian Cup. The Asian Cup is scheduled to be held in in the UAE next January. The Arabian Gulf Cup champions will end the Jordan camp with another preparatory match against Jordan on September 11. Therefore, the Dutchman and his assistant Muhanna al Adawi will select the suitable starting list for both matches and will allow most of the players some playing time to evaluate their performances.
There was some concern for the Oman team management after star attacker Khalid al Hajri suffered a head injury after a clash with his colleague Nader Awadh during the training sessions. Oman’s medical team affirmed that the player will be required to take two weeks’ rest and can gradually join the training sessions. However, medical team confirmed that Al Hajri’s health situation is good in overall. The Red Warriors players continued their preparation as per the approved schedule from the technical committee which has divided the training periods into two sessions: morning and evening. The team are training in presence of full squad as all the professional players joined to the camp.
