Muscat: The Sultanate will mark Oman Physical Activity Day in a ceremony presided over by Shaikh Saad bin Mohammed al Saadi, Minister of Sport Affairs, at the As’sahwa Public Gardens on Tuesday.

The celebration, which is organised by the National Non-Communicable Diseases Committee, includes promoting walking, awareness activities on the importance of physical activity in daily life, traditional sports as fitness shows and Capoeira (a martial art).

The event aims at promoting positive lifestyles through exercises, which will contribute in raising productivity and encouraging the concerned authorities to adopt suitable space for physical activities.

Children and adolescents should get 60 minutes of physical activity daily while adults should engage in exercises for half an hour to protect themselves from chronic diseases.

It should be noted that similar programmes will be held in the different governorates of the Sultanate to mark the Oman Physical Activity Day. The event is part of the World Walking Day, which falls on October 7.
