Oman receives 3.3 million visitors in 2017

The Ministry of Tourism said Oman received 3.3 million visitors in 2017 with a growth rate of 3.5 per cent, compared to the previous year, while the number of cruise visitors was 222,000 compared to compared to 217,000 visitors in 2016, an increase of 2.3 per cent.


Licensed hotel facilities grew by 8.9 per cent to 367 establishment from 337 establishments in 2016.


In 2017, the number of hotel rooms increased from  18, 825 2016 to 20, 581 rooms in 2017


The number of beds increased from 29,538 in 2016 to 31, 774  in In 2017 with an increase of 7.6 per cent.


The annual report of the Ministry of Tourism said 89 establishments were granted initial approvals for hotel facilities by the end of last year, which include 7, 749 hotel rooms, 18 one-star hotel facilities, 17 two-star hotel facilities, 36  three star hotels,  15 four-star properties and three five star hotels.


The upcoming 89 hotels projects will be distributed in various provinces of the Sultanate, of which two five-star hotels will be Muscat and one in the North Batinah province.


Of  the 15 four-star hotels, 11 will be in Muscat and two in Dhofar, one each in North and South Batinah.


Out of 18 one-star hotels, four will be in Muscat , three in North Sharqiyah and four in South Sharqiyah.
