Oman Olympic Committee names acting chairman

Muscat: The Board of Directors of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) held its third meeting this year under the chairmanship of Sheikh Saif bin Hilal al Hosni, OOC Board vice-chairman and discussed the resignation of Sheikh Khalid bin Muhammad al Zubair as chairman.


The meeting also decided that Sheikh Saif bin Hilal al Hosni will be the acting OOC Board Chairman until the convening of the extraordinary General Assembly and election of the chairman pursuant to the OOC’s Statutes. The OOC Board members expressed their utmost regards and appreciation to Al Zubair for his strenuous efforts in cooperation with his colleagues, board members, during his tenure as OOC Chairman. In this context, they cited the endeavors made to develop operational systems and activate events and various programmes under the theme “Sport for Development” while contributing to many other qualitative projects programmes within OOC, including the setting up of Oman Dispute Resolution and Arbitration for Sport Committee. Among the big projects carried out is also the launching of sports marketing, through which OOC signed sponsorship agreements in support of the sports associations and committees with a number of major companies of the private sector.


Sheikh Khalid also laid the foundation of the Omani Olympic Academy, whose strategy and statutes were duly approved, and effectively contributed to the consolidation of cooperation and partnership with various local and international organizations, which further strengthened OOC’s presence at the regional, continental and international levels, eventually materializing in the selection of Sheikh Khalid Al Zubair as member of the International Olympic Committee. The meeting also approved of the preparations to be made to announce the date of convening the extraordinary General Assembly to elect OOC Board Chairman as spelled out in the rules and regulations applicable within Oman Olympic Committee.
