Oman, Lithuania expand ties; ink MoUs on agriculture, education

MUSCAT: Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, received in his office on Monday Linas. Antanas Linkevicius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, who is currently on an official three-day visit to the Sultanate. The two sides touched on the march of the existing friendship relations between the two countries in political, economic and cultural fields. The visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of establishing the diplomatic relations between the Sultanate and Lithuania. The two sides also discussed regional and international issues of common concern.

During the Lithuanian minister’s visit to the Sultanate, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in the agricultural field. The MoU was signed on behalf of the Sultanate’s Government by Dr Ahmed bin Nasser al Bakri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, while it was signed on behalf of the Lithuanian Government by Rolandas Taraskevicius, Deputy Minister of Agriculture. A MoU was also signed in areas of science and higher education. The MoU was signed on behalf of the Sultanate’s Government by Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed al Sarmi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, while it was signed from the Lithuanian Government by Asta Skaisgiryte, Lithuanian Ambassador to the Sultanate.

Dr Abdulmunim bin Mansour al Hasani, Minister of Information, also received in his office on Monday Linas Antanas Linkevicius.


The meeting reviewed the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and means of enhancing them, particularly what is related to Media aspects.The meeting was attended by a number of officials from both sides. — ONA
