Oman junior handball team gearing up for Asian tourney

MUSCAT, Sept 2 - Oman national under-16 handball team is gearing up for the upcoming Asian Championship to be held in Jordan from September 13 to 24. As many as 16 teams will take part in the eight edition of the championship. Oman team is grouped in the first group along with Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and China. Iraq will play against South Korea, India and Syria teams in the second group. The technical committee of the national team confirmed playing three friendly matches against Iraq during the internal camp of the team. The first match will be played on Tuesday against Iraq who are having a camp in the Sultanate currently.


The second match will be played on September 6, while the third match is on September 9. Khalil al Mashari, head coach of the national handball junior team, is monitoring the training sessions at the internal camp in Muscat. The national team players are taking two sessions of the training daily — morning and evening. Instead of having an external camp, the technical committee is focusing on the friendly matches to improve the players’ match exposure. On the other hand, Iraq team continued their training sessions at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Iraq team will play some friendly matches with local clubs including Ahli Sidab, Oman Club and Seeb Club.
