Oman issues over 45,000 e-visas in one month

April 23 - Around 45,947 electronic visas were issued during the period from March 21 2018 to April 16 as pert of the part of the initiatives of the government to simply visa procedures for tourists arriving to the sultanate.


The Ministry of Tourism revealed at the Arab Travel Market (ATM) that seven new hotels will come up in the Dhofar Governorate during the current year, which will add up to 1,851 extra rooms.


Oman is represented by the Ministry of Tourism and a number of institutions and private establishments from the travel and hospitality sector in the presence of Maitha bint Saif bin Majid al Mahroqiqa Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism.


"The tourism sector in the Sultanate is experiencing remarkable annual growth in many aspects with the increase in the number of tourists and visitors and the opening of tourism projects and hotel facilities. The government is working on the implementation of the first phase of the Oman Tourism Strategy, as well as the and integration of the different entities, institutions and establishments operating in the tourism sector. "


The number of hotels rose from 337 in 2016 to 367 in 2017 with a change of 8.9 per cent and an annual growth rate of 6.4% in the period from 2009 to 2017. These establishments provided 20,851 rooms in 2017 compared to 18,825 rooms in the previous year with a change of 9. 3 per cent and an annual growth rate of 8.8 per cent during the period from 2009 to 2017.


The Undersecretary pointed out that the Sultanate is witnessing a great progress with the completion of projects and emphasis on the plans for sustainable tourism development.
