Oman hockey chief, coach aim Asian Games qualification

Muscat, jan 13 - Oman Hockey Association (OHA) chairman Talib al Wahaibi and national coach Tahir Zaman stated their target was qualifying for the Asian Games in Jakarta. In a telephonic chat with Oman Observer, the chairman was hopeful of a good year for Oman hockey team. “The year 2018 will be a busy year for us and we are hoping to do really well in Asia. Our main target is to qualify for the Asian Games later this year and we will work towards that goal,’’ he added.

The Oman national hockey team will participate in the Asian Games qualifying event to be held in March in Muscat featuring 12 nations. Chairman Al Wahaibi expressed cautious optimism about Oman’s chances of qualifying. “I think we will qualify. I do not want to put a percentage to that but we have a good chance of qualifying,’’ the chairman said. The chairman also went further ahead and said that this year and the next one will be a fruitful one for Oman. “Oman will have a fantastic 2018 and 2019 and I am quite hopeful of that,’’ he added.


COACH ZAMAN POSITIVE


Coach Tahir Zaman echoed the views of OHA chairman Talib al Wahaibi with regard to the national team’s ambitions and challenges. “Our main aim is to qualify for the Asian Games and we are focused on that. We will start training in a few days,’’ he added. Zaman was affirmative when asked about his interaction with the players. “I have interacted with a few players and shared thoughts with them. We have also formed a whatsapp group and tried to get everyone on board,’’ he added.
