The Sultanate strongly condemned the terror plot which targeted the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the believers who came from all corners of the globe to perform umrah and prayers at the Grand

Mosque especially on these blessed days of the holy month of Ramadhan.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry hailed the bravery of the Saudi security personnel who managed to foil this cowardly terror plot.

The Sultanate confirmed its constant stance supportive of Saudi Arabia against all types of terrorism which target the security and stability of nations and the innocent people.

The Sultanate affirmed that such an inferior terrorist attempt won’t affect the efforts and the role played by Saudi Arabia in protecting the pilgrims and providing them with the services that enable them to perform the rites seamlessly.

Saudi security forces late on Friday said they had foiled a “imminent terrorist plot” targeting

the Grand Mosque that houses Islam’s holiest site in the city of Mecca.

The attack against the Grand Mosque was being planned by three terrorist groups: two based in Mecca and a third in the nearby city of Jeddah, Interior Ministry spokesman Mansour al Turki said in a statement.

As security forces closed in on the suspects in Mecca’s district of Ajiad, a would-be suicide bomber opened fire on security forces and refused to comply with calls to turn himself in, Al Turki added. — Agencies
