Oman Fisheries Company sales up during 2016-17

MUSCAT: Dr Khalid bin Mansour al Zadjali (pictured), CEO of Oman Fisheries Company, says the company’s sales during 2016-2017 exceeded RO 23.5 million by producing over 40,000 tonnes of fishery products exported to 55 countries around the world. He added that the company owns 4 factories in the Governorate of Muscat, Soqra in the Governorate of Al Wusta, and Wilayat of Masirah and Niyabat of Al Ashkharah. He added that the company owns two sites for fish landing in Al Shuwaimiyah in the Wilayat of Shaleem and the Islands of Al Halaniyat and the second in Sarab, Wilayat of Mahout, in addition to added value factory in the Governorate of Al Buraimi.


He added that the company intends to launch new value-added marine products and will be introduced by Oman Fisheries Company in the coming period. These products are characterised by their healthy ingredients and taste, and are available in various varieties that satisfy all tastes of consumers. He pointed out that these products are different types of marine baked goods, such as burgers, fish fingers, squid pickles and seafood.


The company aims to raise the value of Omani fish products and reach the largest segment of consumers. He pointed out that ensuring the quality of fish is a priority at Oman Fisheries Company.


He pointed out that the company has developed a special section to monitor the quality of fishery products and provided it with a technical staff specialised after appointing 9 Omani employees with bachelor degree in quality control and enrolled them to an intensive training programme in the field of HACCP and governing regulations of fisheries quality control and were distributed to various factories owned by the company.


The CEO said that the logistics and warehouses sector owned by the company is represented by Al Ameen Company for Warehouses and Refrigeration, indicating that Al Ameen Stores is one of the largest specialised companies in the field of providing modern cooling stores in Oman.


He added that these stores are located in a strategic location with an area of 60,000 square metres and near the roundabout area of Halban on the highway linking the port of Suhar and the Governorate of Muscat.


Regarding Omanisation policy, Al Zadjali said that the company has recently appointed a number of Omani youth in various positions in the company, including executive positions in asset management, warehousing, maintenance, auditing, design, documentation, media, accounting, computer, financial and human resources.


He added that the company has also Omanised a number of senior supervisory positions. The total number of employees recruited during the last period is about 40 Omani employees, noting that the Omanisation rate in the company increased from 18 per cent to 35 per cent during 2016-2017.


He added that the company has a marketing plan by taking advantage of local and international exhibitions dealing with food and fishery products.


Omani fish also participated at the Brussels exhibitions in Belgium and Guangzhou in China, the Doha exhibition in Qatar and the exhibition in Algeria, as well as participating in the food exhibition in New Delhi, India, which resulted in finding new international markets for the company.
