Oman curbs on import of birds, poultry products from Saudi

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has said that it is in direct touch with the competent authorities in Arabia on the reports of bird flu (H5N8) cases found in the poultry market in Riyadh on December 20. The ministry said as some precautionary measures, it had stop issuing licenses to import live birds and poultry products from Saudi Arabia.


It is in constant touch with specialists in Saudi Arabia and the GCC countries on the latest developments in the epidemiological situation of the disease in Saudi Arabia.


It has directed the veterinarians at border posts in the Sultanate to tighten the control and intensify quarantine procedures.


It has imported companies to stop issuing licenses to import live birds and their products and eggs from Saudi Arabia


It is coordinating with the regulatory authorities to monitor Omani markets.


It will raise the level of preparedness according to the emergency plan for the follow-up of avian influenza through the veterinary clinics of the ministry in all governorates.
