Oman Cricket conducts ‘Level 0’ course to educate new umpires

MUSCAT: Always eager to enhance its pool of officials to ensure smooth supervision of games, Oman Cricket (OC) recently conducted a basic ‘Level 0’ umpiring course at Al Falaj Hotel.


The six-day course, conducted by ICC-Asia certified Umpire Educator AR Srinivasan and supported by senior OC umpire Rahul Asher, was attended by 32 aspiring umpires who exhibited their keenness to become good umpires and, given the opportunity, supervise tournament matches in Oman.


The participants were awarded certificates on the last day of the course by Syed Anwar Ahsan, OC Board member, who was the chief guest on the occasion.


Knockout tournament attracts 43 teams


Oman Cricket announced that its annual knockout tournament had attracted a total of 43 teams.


While the Senior Cup, comprising B and C Division sides, attracted 12 teams, Intermediate Cup (D, E and F Division teams, consists of 15 teams. There are a total of 16 teams in the Junior Cup which comprises G, H and I Division outfits.


It may be mentioned that only teams registered with Oman Cricket for the current season are eligible to take part in the knockout competitions. The tournament had already commenced on February 23 at Muscat Municipality grounds in Al Amerat.


All the three finals are scheduled for March 30, followed by the prize distribution ceremony at Muscat Municipality Ground 1 at 10.30 am.
