By Vinod Nair — MUSCAT: Jan 14 - Oman Air plans to add flight capacity on the Bangkok-Muscat route in the wake of increasing demand for passengers on the sector. As per the details on the company website, bookings have started for a new service (WY811) from May 3 with services on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The new flight will leave Muscat at 3.50am to arrive Bangkok at 12.10pm, while the return flight will leave Bangkok 3.10pm to reach Muscat at 6.10pm.

Earlier, The Bankgok Post quoted Oman Air’s Joseph Cusmano, the manager for Thailand, as saying the number of flights will be raised to 18 services a week from 14 flights now from the second quarter of this year and to possible 21 flights a week in the last quarter.

Oman Air has been operating its Bangkok operations from November 2007 and the sector has been highly popular with a large number of Omani and expatriate travelers visiting the country for tourism and medical purposes. A travel operator speaking to the Observer, “It is good news as the sector has been popular with the Omani population as a medical destination and as an affordable destination with a number of outbound tourists from Oman.” It may be noted that Thai AirAsiaX has stopped its services from Muscat from January 19 citing poor demand.
