Oman Drydock Company (ODC) has completed the drydocking and maintenance of two ultra large ore carriers, Liwa Max and Sohar Max, of Oman Shipping Company SAOC, bolstering a vital partnership that will extend across a number of subsidiaries of the ASYAD Group (formerly Oman Global Logistics Group), the holding company of state-owned assets in port, transport, shipping and logistics entities.

Abdulrahman al Hatmi, CEO of ASYAD Group, described the partnership as one of the highlights of the Group’s achievements which will help optimise the utilisation of its various capabilities and resources in fuelling Oman’s economic development and boosting returns on government investments in the Group.

In order to accomplish the group’s goals, ASYAD appointed Stephan Aumann (pictured) from Hamburg/Germany as the new CEO for the Oman Drydock Company. Aumann, 50, brings 20 years of senior management experience with overall P&L responsibility within the international maritime industry, especially in the ship repair and conversion as well as the oil and gas business.

Aumann holds a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering and Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences in Kiel, Germany.

Aumann will capitalise on his vast experience to develop the Oman Drydock Company into one of the leading ship repair companies on the national, regional and international levels. Aumann is convinced that the professional level of cooperation with Oman Shipping Company is vital to the sustainable growth of ODC’s business.

ODC is committed to providing superior dry-docking, maintenance and repair services to OSC’s formidable fleet of 51 vessels. Cooperation between the two companies began in October 2011 when ODC took delivery of the LNG Muscat for maintenance, followed by the arrival of other OSC owned tankers “Manah”, “Saham”, “Mirbat”, “Al Amerat” and “Samail”.

A new highpoint in this relationship was reached when three of the world’s largest ore carriers, Sohar Max, Liwa Max and Shinas, arrived at the dock for maintenance, Aumann added.
