The National Computer Emergency Readiness Team (OCERT) said it is following the spread of ‘bad rabbit’ computer virus across the world.

It has urged all organisations to comply with recommendations issued by the Information Technology Authority (ITA) and the need to comply with all security guidelines and standards.

Meanwhile, Kaspersky, the cyber security and anti-virus solutions provider, d Rabbit ransomware has infected several big Russian media outlets, with Interfax news agency and Fontanka.ru among the confirmed victims of the malware. Odessa International Airport has reported on a cyberattack on its information system, though whether it’s the same attack is not yet clear.

“The criminals behind the Bad Rabbit attack are demanding around 0.05 bitcoin as ransom — that’s roughly at the current exchange rate,” it said.

Kaspersky added, “It is a drive-by attack where victims download a fake Adobe Flash installer from infected websites and manually launch the .exe file, thus infecting themselves. Our researchers have detected a number of compromised websites, all news or media sites.”
