MUSCAT: Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised at its premises the third Ramadhan evening on ‘4th Industrial Revolution (IR) and the Future of Businesses’.

The evening was sponsored by Sayyid Dr Fahd bin Al Julanda al Said, Assistant Secretary-General of The Research Council for Innovation Development, who said in a statement that the 4IR is an important topic and the Sultanate is not immune from the changes and developments taking place in the world.

He added in a statement to reporters that 4IR aims at reducing reliance on oil and gas, the main source of revenues for the Sultanate, due to the challenges the Sultanate and other oil exporting countries will face in the future.

Dr Chris Moody, the expert at the Office of Science, Knowledge and Technology Transfer at the Foreign Ministry, made a presentation at which he gave an overview about 4IR, the positive effects on the current industry and economy, the training, and the opportunities from changing industry to keep pace with development. He highlighted the future technologies that will be used in the 4th IR, as well as the opportunities that will be provided by the nano-technology industries.
