MUSCAT: The Oman Banks Association (OBA), as part of its commitment to facilitate global best practices, will organise a seminar on the ‘role of financial institutions in economic development’ on April 26 at the College of Banking and Financial Studies (CBFS). The initiative, aimed at raising awareness on financial literacy and banking services, comes as part of the activities lined up by OBA to mark the annual Arab Financial Inclusion Day coinciding on April 27. The seminar will be attended by students from different colleges and universities in Oman and topics will range from introduction to Oman economy to contribution of banks in economic development and the role of CBO in maintaining the Omani economy.

In addition to the seminar, and in recognition of the Arab Financial Inclusion Day, the OBA has organised visits by school students to various bank branches across the Sultanate, with the aim of familiarising students with the daily operations of banks and different banking products and services.

OBA is a not-for-profit professional body formed to represent the banking sector and its employees in Oman. Its objectives include the promotion of Omani banking activities both locally and internationally; protection of reputation of banks through coordination with the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) and development of strategies and initiatives to strengthen the banking sector in Oman.

The banking sector in Oman is governed by policies defined by the CBO. OBA brings together banking professionals who are keen to share knowledge, resources and expertise to promote banking excellence and professionalism in Oman.
