OAMC appoints 2nd firm for ground handling at Muscat Intl Airport

MUSCAT: Oman Airport Management Company (OAMC) has appointed Swissport, a global of ground and cargo handling services in the aviation industry for ground and cargo handling. With this, Swissport is the second organisation to handle passenger and cargo at the Muscat International Airport. The official announcement was made at an event attended by Yahya bin Said al Jabri, Chairman, Special Economic Zone Authority Duqm (SEZAD) and Chairman, OAMC; Dr Mohammed bin Nasser al Za’abi, Vice-Chairman of the Board and CEO of Public Authority of Civil Aviation (PACA), Aimen bin Ahmed al Hosni, CEO, OAMC, Abdulla al Jarwani, Chairman, Jarwani Group; Mark Skinner, Senior Vice-President, Swissport Middle East and Africa; Nils Pries Knudsen, CCO, Swissport Int’l and member of Swissport Executive Management and Didlier Steullet, Country Manager Swissport Oman, along with other key officials and representatives from the ministries and airlines and travel conglomerates.


“We are very much excited about this association and we highly positive of the great outcomes from this collaboration as Oman has ambitious plans for future and as the new terminals are in the final stages of completion,” Mark Skinner told the Observer.


He further hoped that similar understanding can be made at the Salalah International Airport and the other domestic airports in the future.


According to the data provided by the company, Swissport provides services on behalf of some 835 client-companies and handles around 230 million passengers and 4.1 million flight movements per year.


Statistics suggest that there has been a 11.8-per cent increase in the number of international flights using the Muscat International Airport in the first 3 months of 2017 compared to last year contributing to the passenger arrivals which rose by 14 per cent and 17.2 per cent increase in departures.


Transit passengers showed an increase of 62.6 per cent compared to the same period last year.


Domestic flights too recorded an increase of 12.6 per cent in terms of landing and 12.7 per cent in taking off.
