Shared Thoughts - Nizar al Musalmy - Nizar.nmh.musalmy@gmail.com - I did not go to Kuwait to watch the final game of the Gulf Cup between Oman and UAE Instead I sent my younger one to go there on my behalf. I had to do that because I considered things like having enough air in the lungs and the capacity to shout loudly at very high volumes.

I knew Junior would be a better cheerer and has more ability to encourage and show enthusiasm than me and so I let him go. I told him to cheer more loudly to encourage the players to score goals.

That night I remained at home glued on my TV. It was a very tense and exciting match but in the end the picture was vivid — Oman won the 23rd Gulf Cup with much calmness and patience. Considering their recent form, young age and their earlier performances, the Oman team deserves to be highly applauded; Oman’s heart has been brightened by their winning the coveted Gulf cup. It is the player’s undying spirit which has finally brought them their richly deserved victory. Oman’s triumph was a tribute to the whole nation. Oman Football Association is saluted here for pioneering efforts to shape and develop the team to realise the dream coming true. Hopefully this glorious performance will serve as morale booster to the youth of the Sultanate. Let this inspire them to greater efforts and become a stepping stone to bring more glory to the nation. As never before the team needs and deserves a spontaneous and magnificent support of all concerned authorities so that they can be further nurtured and encouraged to become the darling of the world.

The red brigade had the burning ambition to win from the start. Determination and vigour prevailed in the team. Their techniques and tactics have improved since they began in the preliminaries. And their penalty scoring only emphasised their desire to win. Thanks to coach Pim Verbeek who directed a great movie. His stars played their roles on the big screen before a huge audience and secured the title. He indeed chose the best actors and gave them a scenario. The actors did not disappoint him as they showed their art of invention. This movie will remain at the hearts of all Omanis and residents for so long as celebrations continue. While the goalkeeper, Faiz al Rusheidi was a hero of the match, every Omani player deserves a pat on the back for the exemplary courage displayed in the presence of a big crowd. Shrewd skippers always kept things organised as the midfielders served to show the immense talent in the team. The attackers kept the opponents on the back foot for most of the time. Mohsin Jowhar’s penalty shoot-out goal was the turning point. He positioned himself very well made his calculation and sent the UAE gaolie to the wrong side and settled the matter for the nation to win the desirable trophy. The whole nation erupted as one in a party at winning the much-awaited title.

On behalf of sports loving community, we congratulate the whole team members, and people of Oman for winning the nations Gulf championship and bringing glory to the country. Our most sincere thanks and appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the builder of Oman’s prosperity in every field, sports included. His leadership has provided a firm sporting base in the Sultanate.

We are all proud. O-Man, what a triumph!
