Number of job-seekers in Oman touches 43,858

MUSCAT: Job-seekers in the Sultanate numbered 43,858 most of them aged 25-29 years of age. The majority of job-seekers are college graduates, according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCIS). By the end of December, 2016 job-seekers registered 15,831 males and 28,027 females, a 0.1 per cent increase compared with the end of November, 2015. As many as 20,869 job-seekers belong to the age group 25-29 which made up the majority of unemployed nationals followed by the age group 18-24 which made up 12,700 job-seekers. The age group 30-34 made up 7,231, the age group 35-39 (2,735) and the age group 40 years and above made up 323 job-seekers.


With regards to the educational level, college certificate holders numbered 16,094 constituting the majority job-seekers followed by the holders of the general education diploma (GED) who made up 13,643 and the holders of university diploma made up 8,368, job-seekers with an education level below GED constituted 5,657 while the Master’s and PhD holders made up 96 job-seekers. Governorate-wise North Al Batinah made up the majority of job-seekers with 9,544. The governorates of Muscat, South Al Batinah and Al Dakhiliyah registered almost consistent numbers: 5,359, 5,132 and 5,025, respectively. The least number of job-seekers were registered in Al Buraimi (1,684) and Musandam (794) and Al Wusta (346). — ONA
