By Vinod Nair — MUSCAT: May 3 - For the first time in Muscat, a home-to-work car transport service has been offered by Marhaba Taxi. Speaking to the Observer, Yousuf al Hooti, special projects manager, Marhaba Taxi, said the service — to be available on a monthly/yearly contract basis — was launched in response to the feedback from customers. The company started its services on April 11 this year. The service will be available only after signing a contract and not through the mobile app as used for its on-demand services. Al Hooti said the monthly rates are as follows: RO 60 up to a distance of 15 km; RO 90 - 25 km; RO 120 - 35 km; RO 150 - 45 km and RO 180 - 55 km.
The service includes pick-up and drop from home to work for 22 working days a month. As per the agreement, four people can travel in one car and share the monthly charges. “Customers can be picked from the same place or it should not matter if they are within a short distance,” he said. The service will be available during working hours. Al Hooti said: “We are offering safe operations and prices that are reasonable considering our brand new luxury cars with advance technologies and safety mechanisms.” He said 100 cars are now available for service.
“The number will gradually touch 400 as all the taxi operators at hotels have accepted our terms and agreed to join the team.” Marhaba had previously launched promotional fares for its on-demand services under which the minimum fare for first 6 km is RO 3. Onwards up to 12 km, it is 350 baisa per km; from 12 km, it is 150 baisa per km. Cancellation charges are RO 1 and waiting fare 50 baisa. The earlier fares were RO 3.5 for the first 5 km and after that 500 baisa for each kilometre. The contact number for services is 99121205.
