North Korea preparing to test fire intercontinental ballistic missile

SEOUL:  North Korea is in the final stages of preparing for a test firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), its leader Kim Jong Un said on Sunday, according to local media. “We were vibrant in developing advanced weapons (last year)… We are in the final stages of preparing to test-fire an ICBM,” Kim said in his televised New Year speech, according to South Korean news agency Yonhap. The pace of North Korea’s military development has increased under Kim, who came to power in 2011 after the death of his father, with the isolated Asian nation conducting two nuclear tests in 2016 alone. — DPA
