North Al Batinah wins HM’s Cup for Excellence in Scouts and Guides

By Zainab Al Nasseri — MUSCAT: Dec. 10: The Governorate of North Al Batinah won His Majesty’s ‘The Greatest Scout’ Cup in the Scouts and Guides Excellence Contest 2015-16 at an annual ceremony held at Wattayah theatre. The ceremony was presided over by Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed al Saeedi, Minister of Legal Affairs. It was attended by top officials, and scouts and guides from different scouting commissions affiliated to the Ministry of Education. Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, said that the contest, launched in 2007, “reflects His Majesty’s continuous support to Omani scouts and guides. It enhances competition between different commissions in the Sultanate. The result is excellent efforts at the regional and international levels.”

She said the ministry will go ahead with supporting scouting training programmes through different activities.

In his speech, Mohammed al Toobi, head of the main committee of the contest, said the educational programmes have helped expand students’ knowledge and sharpened their skills.

“Scouts and guides activities give students an opportunity to engage with people, enhance their cooperation skills and help them adapt to different situations. They also get a chance to establish social relationships and react with the local community.”


Al Toobi said the Directorate-General of North Al Batinah, which has won ‘The Greatest Scout’ cup for the fourth time, has worked hard to reach this goal. “I congratulate them for their achievement.”


The ceremony saw a musical display and a scout operetta show by DG of Al Batinah North, the winners.


The patron of the event presented the cup to the winner, besides the excellence cups to Buraimi Commission, which won the second place, Al Batinah South third place, Al Dhahirah fourth and Musandam fifth.
