New vehicle registered every four minutes in 2016

By Vinod Nair — MUSCAT: March 19 - The majority of vehicles registered in the Sultanate during 2016 have white colour, according to statistics provided by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI), which also said a vehicle was registered every four minutes in 2016. Every six minutes a driver’s license was issued in the country, A report on Traffic System said the colour of most vehicles registered was white (48.3 per cent), followed by silver (9.1 per cent), among others. The percentage of red colour in the vehicles in the Sultanate is four per cent and other colours at 15.3 per cent.


Meanwhile, the report added that there were a total of 1,376,06 vehicles on the roads of Oman as of January 2017.  The number of new private vehicles registered dropped by 24.2 per cent to 12,776 in February from 16,848 in January 2017. The number of commercial vehicles registered in February dropped to 41.4 per cent in February and taxi to 37.5 per cent. The number of licenses registered in the Sultanate until the end of 2016 was 1.4 million with the about half of the population (18 years and older) having a driver’s license.
