New tunnels on Bidbid-Sur road

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport and Communications will construct two tunnels on the Bidbid-Sur road, one of them, 600-metre long, will be located in Nadab township and the other one at the collapse sites in Wadi Al Aqq. Two more tunnels will be constructed in other locations to provide protection from falling rocks. This was stated by Salim bin Mohammed al Nuaimi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, when he met with representatives of North Al Sharqiyah Governorate at Majlis Ash’shura who inspected the Bidbid-Sur road specifically the Wadi Al Aqq area which links the governorates of Al Dakhiliyah and North Al Sharqiyah.


The delegation inspected bridges, intersections and the sites of the collapses which occurred at the project. Al Nuaimi briefed them about what had been implemented of part 1 and 2 of the first phase with a total length of 115 km from Bidbid intersection on the Nizwa-Al Rusail road up to the Masroon intersection in the Wilayat of Ibra. He explained to them the challenges facing the projects such as rough terrains especially at the Wadi Al Aqq area and the efforts being done by the ministry of overcome these difficulties.
