New Oman Penal law, What does it say?

Details of the new penal law promulgated by the Royal Decree No 7/2018 on Thursday are as follows:

Three to five years’ imprisonment, dismissal from employment and ban from public duties to any public official who embezzled public or private funds.

Three to 15 years’ imprisonment for any Omani who takes part in hostilities outside the country without legal justification or joins the extremist groups and terrorist organization.

Anyone who facilitates the entry into the country or assists the enemy by providing information to or guiding him shall be sentenced to death

Imprisonment varying 3 months to 3 years for anyone who intentionally disseminates false news, rumors at home or abroad that will undermine the prestige of the state or hurt confidence in financial markets and affect the financial position.

Three to 10 years jail for anyone transgressing against the God, prophets, the Holy Quran, the Islamic religion or other heavenly religions .

Any person who kills a public official while performing his duty shall be sentenced to death, which shall be replaced by imprisonment if he is pardoned by the victim’s parents or blood relatives.

No less than 7 years imprisonment for any person who intentionally tries to disrupt the smooth passage of ambulance or public security vehicles.
