Salalah: Activities of New Media and Digital Era Forum began at Rotana Salalah Hotel on Wednesday under the title ‘Our Media, Our Identity’.

The two-day forum, which is being organised by Al Roya newspaper, in cooperation with the First Sponsorship Company for Organising Conferences and Symposium, was opened under the patronage of Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Chairman of the Public Authority of Radio and Television (PART).

Talal bin Sulaiman al Rahbi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Planning, delivered the opening statement of the forum under the title ‘New Media to Serve Development’, in which he praised the national responsibility of the audio and visual media.

He expressed his hope that this forum will contribute in enhancing the Omani media march to wider horizons through utilising channels and tools of the new media for the Sultanate’s current and future interests.

He also pointed out that the new media forum seeks to explore the future of the media in the Sultanate in light of the rapid developments in the field of international and local media.

He stressed the importance of the new media in the Sultanate to be a mirror of what is happening and to transfer the reality professionally.

Then he and the attendees toured the accompanying exhibition, which includes a number of projects and works in the field of digital media for students of the College of Applied Sciences in Salalah, in addition to SMEs. The forum’s programme included in its first day six working papers.

The first one dealt with the traditional and new media and approaches to integration and difference, while the second paper dealt with the new media reality in the Sultanate and the future vision. The forum will also include two panel discussions on new media and digital era, in addition to specialised workshops that will be presented by experts from Jordan in the field of digital media. — ONA
