New media and digital era forum opens in Salalah

Salalah: Activities of New Media and Digital Era Forum began at Rotana Salalah hotel today under the title " Our Media, Our Identity".


The two-day forum, which is being organized by Al Roya Newspaper in cooperation with the First Sponsorship Company for Organizing Conferences and Symposium, was opened under the auspices of Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harasi, Chairman of the Public Authority of Radio and Television (PART).


Talal bin Sulaiman al Rahbi, Deputy Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning, delivered the opening statement of the forum under the title "New Media to Serve Development", in which he praised the national responsibility of the audio and visual media.


He expressed his hope that this forum will contribute in enhancing the Omani media march to wider horizons through utilizing channels and tools of the new media for the Sultanate current and future interests.


He also pointed out that the new media forum seeks to explore the future of the media in the Sultanate in light of the rapid developments in the field of international and local media.


He stressed the importance of the new media in the Sultanate to be a mirror of what is happening and to transfer the reality professionally.


The chief guest honoured the participants, and the sponsors and supporting agencies. Then he and the attendees toured the accompanying exhibition, which includes a number of projects and works in the field of digital media for student of the College of Applied Sciences in Salalah, in addition to SMEs.


The forum's programme included in its first day six working papers. The first one dealt with the traditional and new media and approaches to integration and difference, while the second paper dealt with the new media reality in the Sultanate and the future vision.


The third paper dealt with training and qualification for competitiveness and sustainability of media projects.


The fourth paper reviewed the digital media and the performance control authority, while the fifth paper discussed the effects of the new media on the societal reality.


The sixth paper was on the role of digital public relations in the mental image industry of institutions and countries.


The seminar will also include two panel discussion on new media and digital era, in addition to specialized workshops that will be


presented by experts from Jordan in the field of digital media. --ONA
