New eye and ear centres open at Armed Forces Hospital

MUSCAT: The Armed Forces Hospital, Al Khoudh on Sunday celebrated the inauguration of Othalmology Centre and the department of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) under the auspices of Sayyid Badr bin Saud al Busaidy, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs.


The celebration began with a presentation of the medical services provided by the two new centres following which the minister responsible for defence affairs, the chief guest, removed the curtain announcing the official opening of the centre then he took a tour around the facility.


Thanks to the new additions, facilities and equipment the Othalmology Centre will be able to perform major and minor eye surgeries as well as cornea operations by using state-of-the-art treatment and diagnostic machines and technologies such as the Pentacam, the only one of its kind in the Sultanate, which is used for cornea examination and femtosecond laser-assisted cataract technology, among others.


The ENT department is equipped with advanced medical devices such as the vocal cords labs and earmolds lab.


Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the minister responsible for defence affairs said: “We are celebrating here today one of Oman’s glorious days by opening the Othalmology Centre and the ENT department at the Armed Forces Hospital as the Sultanate celebrates the 47th National Day anniversary. The new centres will provide quality healthcare services as they boast advanced machines and modern technologies. These new projects reflect the ministry’s keenness to provide its affiliates with the most advanced medical attention under the flourishing age of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.”
