MUSCAT: The new Muscat International Airport starts the first advanced public trials on Wednesday. The trials serve to simulate a ‘real airport experience’ by going through a number of airport-procedure scenarios, such as checking in, handling baggage, finding your gate or imitating an emergency evacuation. Together with Oman Airport Management Company’s strategic partners, Muscat International Airport aims to test-drive the terminals’ facilities and services, through a series of trials, to ensure the full readiness of all of the airport operations, as well as the satisfaction of the passengers.

“These trials will serve as much more than just testing operations. We will use the valuable feedback from all 17,000 passengers to ensure we achieve our goal to be among the top 20 airports in the world by 2020” — Saud bin Nasser bin Said al Hubaishi, General Manager of Readiness, OAMC.

The public participants are to meet at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center as an assembly point, where the OAMC team will welcome guests and provide the necessary information. The participants are then transported to the new terminal through the national transport company Mwasalat.

“We took our entire workforce to the internal stakeholder trials and had a wonderful time. The opportunity to support our nation and be a part of history-in-the-making is something we should all get behind. Our team enjoyed exploring the new airport and sharing our views over lunch; it served as a productive team building day in itself — Business Owner, Muscat.

The advanced trials are to be conducted on a bi-weekly basis, with diverse scenarios and a growing number of volunteer passengers each week; starting with groups of 100 persons and growing to 3000 persons for any given trial.

The national campaign to recruit volunteers from the public, entitled #Jointhetrials, has so far seen over 13,000 persons sign up to attend a trial. The campaign was launched on November 19, enlisting volunteers at a variety of prime locations; the existing Muscat International Airport, Oman Avenues Mall, Muscat Grand Mall and Sabco Centre.

To sign up in person, the promotional team can currently be found at City Centre Qurum, Al Mouj The Wave and Oasis Mall Muscat, or you can register at www.omanairportstrials.om.
