By Staff Reporter — MUSCAT: Jan 14 - The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) will open a section of the Batinah Expressway project for traffic today.  This 18-km section starts from Al Aqeer/Al Wajajah road intersection until the end of the road in Khatmat Milahah in Shinas. The section consists of four lanes on each side of the road with 3m-wide external shoulders, 2m-wide internal shoulders and four flyovers connecting the current Batinah dual carriageway to the villages and hilly mountain area. Additionally, the project will also include 65 box culverts for flood water and wadi drainages, as well as the installation of safety installations on flyovers and box culverts.

It will have trucks weighing stations along with lightings, sign boards, side fences and concrete barriers. The ministry aims to open another section that starts from the 45-km Barka/Nakhl intersection until Al Hazzem in Al Rustaq. With the opening of these portions on the Batinah Expressway, the total length of the opened portions will reach more than 80km out of 272km of the total project length.
