By Staff Reporter — MUSCAT: MAY 3 - Mwasalat will be launching the first phase of a new cargo system on May 14 as part of its efforts to improve the quality of cargo services using new technologies at its various branches. The first phase of the system allows for the efficient delivery of envelopes, as well as cartons of different sizes. An ‘envelope’ is capable of accommodating goods weighing less than half a kilogram; a ‘extra small’ carton can accommodate goods weighing from half a kilogram to under one kilogram; a ‘small’ carton from 1kg to less than 5kg; an ‘medium’ carton from 5 kg to less than 10 kg; and a ‘Large’ carton from 10 kg to 25 kg.

The cost of delivery will be determined according to the package’s size, weight and number of stops travelled. The working hours of all offices will be changed in line with the new system, and the Azaiba office will be the main branch for all cargo operations. To ensure safety, the company has adopted new regulations for transporting goods in coordination with relevant local land transport authorities. The list of forbidden goods that are not allowed to be shipped is specified as follows — breakable items, official documents, cash, jewellery, liquids and food, audio and visual tapes, animals, car spare parts, machines and heavy equipment, chemicals, pesticides, petroleum products, and any flammable materials.

The implementation of the new cargo system is in accordance with the provisions of the Land Transport Law issued by Royal Decree No 10/2016. The new system aims to transport goods to predetermined locations along the bus routes at specified times in accordance with the bus timings and the available capacity for any given bus. Mwasalat has the right to inspect any envelope or package in order to verify the contents of transported goods and ensure the data submitted by the sender is valid.

After arranging for delivery via the new cargo system, the sender will be provided with a copy of a goods transport receipt, and the transported goods will be marked with a physical and/or digital stamp in order to trace their route. Goods will be handed over at the delivery point only after the identification of the receiver has been verified and the tracking stamp authenticated.
