Muscat, Seoul sign cooperation pact

Seoul: Mohsin bin Mohammed al Shaikh, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, on Thursday held talks with the Mayor of Seoul, during which they discussed areas of cooperation in various areas of municipal work and urban planning.


Mohammed bin Salim al Harthy, Sultanate’s Ambassador to the Republic of South Korea and Dr Abdul Hakim bin Ahmed al Farsi, Director-General of the Office of the Chairman of Muscat Municipality, attended the meeting.


During the meeting, they agreed to cooperate on urban planning, e-government, urban redevelopment, natural landscaping, infrastructure, health inspection, exchange of visits and training programmes, organisation of festivals, as well as participation in conferences.


The agreement included exchanging information on appropriate mechanisms and initiatives to activate the role of municipalities in supporting and providing facilities to other relevant government institutions in both countries in economic cooperation, increasing investments, developing services and providing facilities to support the plans and programmes of those institutions that contribute to the prosperity of the two cities.


Chairman of Muscat Municipality and the audience followed a presentation on the technologies and tools used in Seoul to control traffic. The presentation was made by specialists in municipality of Seoul.


The tour programme includes field trips to a number of institutions, service facilities and development projects, visits to a number of Korean cities, and institutions.


The visit comes in response to the invitation received by Mohsin bin Mohammed al Shaikh, Chairman of Muscat Municipality from Lee Sihyung,


President of the Korea Foundation, to learn about the experience of the Republic of South Korea in various fields of development and urban development from September 2 to 8.
