By Kabeer Yousuf — MUSCAT: Feb 22 - The 22nd edition of Muscat International Book Fair opened at the iconic Oman Conference and Exhibition Center on Wednesday. His Highness Sayyid Haitham bin Tareq al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture, presided over the opening ceremony. Dr Abdulmunim bin Mansour al Hasani, Minister of Information, along with ministers and key personalities attended the ceremony, in which a video was screened about the history of the country’s literature. A total of 2,500 pavilions from across the world are showcasing 450,000 titles from 750 publishers from 28 countries. Suhar is the ‘Guest of Honour’ this year.A total of 37 official authorities from the Sultanate and other countries will be participating in the fair.

A range of books on Oman’s history and tradition are a feast to readers with an appetite for history at the pavilions of Ministry of Information and Oman Establishment for Press, Publication and Advertising (OEPPA), to which Oman Arabic Daily and Oman Daily Observer belong.

A Reformer on the Throne by Sergey Plekhanov; Oman: An Illustrated History by Said bin Khalfan al Busaidy; Oman Reborn by Linda Pappas Funsch and The Land of Incense by MoI are some of the titles that shed light on the history of the nation. “We have been to a number of book fairs across the world, including Tehran International Book Fair. This book fair stands ahead of many others in terms of titles, space and visitors,” said Sayyed Hassan Sayyed, a publisher from Iran. Ebrahim Beigi, renowned Iranian writer, is one of the many delegates who will be interacting with visitors at the venue.
