Muscat fest to wow you for 24 days from today

By Kabeer Yousuf — MUSCAT: Jan 18 - All roads will lead to Amerat Park and Naseem Park from Thursday as the annual Muscat Festival will start at 4 pm, drawing people from all over the Sultanate to its kaleidoscopic treat for the coming 24 days. While Amerat Park will play host to a global trade exhibition, electric games, movies at the theatre, heritage village, cultural activities, other art and cultural performances, along with the guiding lessons from the Royal Oman Police (ROP), Naseem Park will have a diverse range of entertainment avenues.


They include the tropical rainforest, paintball, consumer expo, fireworks, open theatre, children’s theatre, folklore and other country bands, skills plaza and various government and private presence catering to one million expected visitors. Alongside, a gamut of cultural events has been lined up.


The headquarters of the Omani Society for Writers and Literati, Omani Forum for Female Gulf Photographers, Omani Economic Association, The Cultural Club, Omani Narratives Laboratory along with Dr Abdulkarim al Lawati, Dr Khalid al Zadjali, Rahima al Jabri, and Bushra al Wahibeya are some of the key participants that will enliven the nights on the cultural stage.


Oman Daily Observer along with its sister publication Oman Arabic, are media sponsors of this gala event, which has found a dominant place in the regional events calendar. They include The Sculpted ‘Oman is the Land of Peace’, presented by Ayoub al Balushi and Kholoud al Shaebyia; lecture on ‘Risk Aversion or Productive Enhancement’, by Dr Khalid al Mamari; an evening for the poet Shaikh Hilal bin Hamoud al Siyabi by Dr Saeed bin Sulaiman al Isa’ee, Ahmed bin Abdullah al Falahi and Dr Saeeda bint Khater al Farsi; and an evening of stories by Nouf al Saedeya, Abdulaziz al Rahbi, Maryam al Adawya, Mohamed al Zarafi and Al Khatab al Mazroui, among others.


Since its inception in 1998, Muscat Festival has been growing from strength to strength with an ever-increasing number of local, regional as well as global participants wowing visitors with multilingual activities and showcasing various civilisations at one geographical space.


“We, at the Muscat Municipality, are looking forward to the concerted efforts and continued support of the private sector for this rich-in-diversity event,” Ali al Hasani, Head of Media at the Muscat Festival Committee, said.


“This is accomplished through different financial and in-kind contributions on which we depend a lot for the success of this event, in return for many promotional and marketing privileges that will be granted to the sponsors according to different categories and volume of contributions.”


Tour of Oman, which has achieved remarkable success in the past editions and attracted the attention of global sport community, will be held from February 14 to 19.


Both venues are open from 4 pm to 11 pm. The entry fees for adults is 200 baisas and for children 100 baisa.
