Mouadh al Shehi claims cadet title at Oman TT

MUSCAT, Sept 9 - Mouadh al Shehi snatched the title of Sultanate table tennis tournament for cadet (singles) category on Saturday. The tournament was organised by Oman Table Tennis Committee (OTTC) at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex indoor courts. Al Shehi beat Al Mundher al Ghassani 3-1 in the final match. At junior level, Mashal al Shehi clinched the first place award as he edged Mouadh al Shehi 3-1 in the final match. In the semifinals, Mashal won against Mohammed al Balushi 3-1, while Mouadh edged Al Mundher al Ghassani 3-0.


In the under-12 (hopes) semifinals, Ahmed al Riyami beat Ayman al Shehi to reach the final, while Mohammed al Moutaa registered a victory against Omar al Ghassani in the semifinal round. The final match of hopes category has been postponed to October month. The cadet final between Ahmed al Riyami and Mohammed al Moutaa will be held in October during the cadet tournament for teams. The two-day singles tournament with matches in hopes (U-12), cadet (U-15) and junior (U-18) sections, saw tough competitions between the players.


Oman head coach Mohammed Atoum had monitored the players during the matches noting down all the technical points. The players were distributed into different groups, and players who topped first two places were qualified to the knockout stages. The list of umpires who officiated the tournament were: Khalid al Zaabi, Hisham al Sibani, Sulieman al Hatmi, Fahad al Farsi, Ahmed al Abrawi and Ayman al Ghadami. Hisham al Salmi was the general referee and Mohammed al Jassasi was head of the delegation for the tournament.
