MoU signed for national programme for decent work

The Sultanate represented by the tripartite stakeholders (the Ministry of Manpower, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and General Federation of Oman Trade Union ‘ GFOTU) and the International Labor Organization (ILO) signed a memorandum to extend the Memorandum of Understanding ‘MoU’ for implementing the national programme for decent work.


This programme aims at building national capacities of stakeholders in the Sultanate to ensure stability and growth of the labor market.


During the period from 2010 to 2016, 950 employees have benefited from the 32 programme that were carried out.


During the period from 2017 to 2019, the Program that will be implemented by the ILO will cover the development of the tripartite system in the field of union organizations, collective bargaining, social dialogue, labor inspection, vocational health and safety, operation, entrepreneurship and social protection.


Shaikh Abdullah bin Nasser al Bakri, Minister of Manpower, said that recently, a number of projects were implement-


ed with the aim of protecting environment and creating decent work for everyone.


The projects include the use of solar energy.


The Sultanate’s national diversification programme ‘Tanfeedh’ has identified five promising sectors namely manufacturing industries, fisheries, mining, tourism, transport and logistics.


On his part, Said bin Saleh al Kiyoumi, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), said that the report of the Director General of this year on the green initiative; creating job opportunities for youths all over the world, coincides with the Sultanate’s interest in the Omani youths and creating green job opportunities for them.


He affirmed that cooperation is maintained with ILO experts to implement this programme.
