MoTC holds seminar on dispute settlement, intl arbitration in ME

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC), in collaboration with White and Case Office, organised on Tuesday the 3rd seminar on FIDIC contracts (Fédération Internationale Des Ingénieurs-Conseils), which means the international federation of consulting engineers settlement of disputes in the Middle East (ME) and international arbitration.


The seminar at which 130 representatives of public and private organisations took part, reviewed the key developments in FIDIC contracts, the role of independent experts in settlement of disputes about FIDIC contracts and how to detail with the claims of the construction project and manage them in a professional manner, especially those related to delay, request for extension of the contract duration, as well as the disputes related to efficiency and speed of implementation.


The seminar cast light on the current arbitration trends in the world and Middle East.


It highlighted how far the construction projects are connected to the investment disputes, the legal bases for annulling the arbitration judgment as per the Omani Law on Arbitration in Civil and Commercial Disputes.


The seminar is part of the existing cooperation between the Sultanate’s Government, represented by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the renowned White and Case law firm; the No 1 firm at the world level in the field of international arbitration and construction.


The seminar aimed at advising those involved in construction contracts of the latest developments in FIDIC contracts, the settlement of disputes and international arbitration.— ONA
