MUSCAT, Oct 15 - The Environment Conservation Office at the Diwan of Royal Court has registered nearly 400 species of plants at the Al Sireen Nature Reserve. Of these, 10 species are found in Al Hajar Mountains and 4 species are included in Oman Plant Red Data Book of endangered flora species.

The Office said that the Acacia trees are among the most well-known plant species living in Al Sireen Nature Reserve.

The Acacia trees provide food and shade for wild animals in the reserve such as the Arabian ibex.

The reserve is also home to other plant species such as the boot fruit (Reptonia Muscatencesea) which constitutes food for a number of wild animals. The boot fruit is also harvested and sold in the markets by the local residents.

The reserve is also home to other well-known flora species such as moringa and wild thyme. Many of these plants have healing properties.

The Environment Conservation Office at the Diwan of Royal Court has set up 5 monitoring centres located on the main gates of the reserve.

Besides, a number of wild life inspectors have also been recruited with a view to boosting wild life protection in the reserve.
