More rains in Dhofar, Al Wusta; Salalah records 617mm rainfall

MUSCAT: The governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta reported heavy and moderate rains due to the tropical situation of Mekunu from May 23-27. The Governorate of Dhofar reported heavy rains. Rainfall measurement stations, affiliated to the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources, recorded the highest rainfall in the Wilayat of Salalah with (617mm), the Wilayat of Taqah (275mm), the Wilayat of Mirbat (221mm), the Wilayat of Rakhyout (214mm), the Wilayat of Thamrait (196mm), the Wilayat of Sadah (180mm) and the Wilayat of Al Mazyouna with (80mm). The Wilayat of Al Jazir in the Governorate of Al Wusta reported (15mm) rainfall.


Light and medium rainfalls were reported in the governorates of Al Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah, North Al Sharqiyah and Al Buraimi. The Wilayat of Adam reported (14mm), Wilayat of Al Buraimi (8mm), the Wilayat of Ibri (7mm) and in the Wilayat of Wadi Bani Khalid (5mm), as an indirect impact of the tropical situation. As a result of this rainfall, the wadis in Dhofar overflowed. In the Governorate of Al Wusta, Wadi Soqrah overflowed too. The Sahlanoot Dam held 6.4 million cubic metres of water. The flood protection dam in Salalah held 92 million cubic metres of water and the Shako reservoir in the Wilayat of Rakhyout held 3,000 cubic metres of water. — ONA
