MoH signs joint declaration on stroke care with Germany

MUSCAT: A joint declaration of intent on dissemination of a quality-assured stroke care was signed on Monday between the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Transport, Agriculture and Viniculture of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate of Germany (Moeatav) and the Ministry of Health (MoH) at Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque.


The declaration was signed by Dr Volker Winning; Moeatav Minister from the German side, and Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Saeedi, from the Omani side. The declaration aimed at creating a platform between the two sides to further discuss the potential areas of collaboration and the potential projects and services in a manner that will be mutually beneficial to the sides.


The minister pointed out that signing this declaration would create more opportunities for training Omanis in the field of strokes and other medical fields.


The declaration stipulated on establishment and certification of stroke care and case management and the organisation of clinical research in accordance with high international standards. In addition to developing benchmark criteria for high-quality stroke care and training especially for nurses in the Sultanate in accordance with the European standards.


It also stipulated on strengthening cooperation between the two sides and exchanging practical experience regarding stroke care via telemedicine, as well as through the organising conferences, symposiums or conventions.


Meanwhile, the scientific sessions of the second Omani-German Stroke Conference commenced on Monday. The sessions included papers on stroke care development in Oman, the importance of quality and safety of patient’s treatment, as well as therapeutic methods.


The papers also touched on the current status of developing a stroke database in order to facilitate conducting scientific researches in all aspects related to strokes, the importance of telestroke networks and role of stroke-nurse education.


The conference was inaugurated on Monday at Grand Hyatt Hotel under the patronage of Dr Al Saeedi in the presence of Dr Volker along with senior MoH officials.


Dr Amal al Hashmi, Senior Consultant and Head of Central Stroke Unit, stressed that this conference is an opportunity for all experts interested in the field of stroke to meet and share their expertise and experiences.
