MUSCAT: The total quantities of gold, silver and platinum handicrafts, which were stamped during the second quarter of 2017 amounted to more than 3,444 kg with a value of more than RO 70,000. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), represented by the Directorate-General for Standards and Metrology, plays a major role in the control of precious metals and precious stones to curb illegal practices and protect the consumer and trader from frauds, in addition to encouraging the precious metals industry and preserving it as a legacy of the Sultanate and eliminating customs evasion. — ONA
