Muscat, Feb 5 - Said Hussain al Ghannami, a teacher from Wilayat of Quryyat who visited the Al Amerat Park with his three daughters, was happy imparting knowledge was given as much importance as entertainment at Muscat Festival. A mobile library titled ‘Maktabati’ is one of the reasons for families for visiting this festival venue. Located in a prime area, the country’s first mobile library is a treat for bibliophiles like Al Ghannami. Hundreds of children and parents visit the library and browse through its diverse collection. “There are book lovers, casual readers as well as curious little minds who want to know what a mobile library is all about,” according to Firas Saif al Farsi, in charge of the library.

“Many families are visiting the library and letting children see popular personalities and works of different authors,” he said. While some want to know what’s new in the literary world, for some, it was a casual visit. Of course, there were many serious readers too. Facilitated by Dar al Atta’a under its ‘Let’s Read’ campaign, Maktabati was launched some four years ago, bringing the world of books to the children’s doorstep. In the last few years, the library has been a key player in making children fall in love with books.
