Minister reviews damage to farm, fisheries sector

SALALAH: Dr Fuad bin Jaafar al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, accompanied by the Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Under-Secretary of the Ministry for Agriculture, the Head of the Office of the Minister visited the Governorate of Dhofar on June 2 and 3. They are joined by the Director- General of Agriculture and Animal Wealth in the Governorate of Dhofar, and the Director-General of Fisheries in the Governorate of Dhofar.


The visit aimed at reviewing the damage incurred by the agriculture and fisheries sector from the adverse tropical condition ‘Mekunu’.


During the first day, the delegation visited the vet quarantine, the Salalah Port, the Public Authority for Stores and Food Security, the agricultural and vet quarantine, Raysut Fishing Harbour, Maritime and Fish Sciences Center in Raysut, the vet clinic and the building of the Directorate General for Fisheries. The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries urged officials to take necessary measures to immediately repair the damage incurred by the infrastructure, the fishing vessels and boats and the fish market.


On the second day, the delegation visited Taqah Harbour and Taqah Fish Market. In the Wilayat of Mirbat, the delegation visited the Fish Development Department, the fishing harbour and the fish farming station. In Dhalkout, the delegation visited the agricultural development department, the vet clinic and the fishing harbour. The minister urged quick maintenance for the damage and raise a detailed report on such damage. — ONA
