By Vinod Nair — MUSCAT: Jan 16 - Oman Air said on Monday that its flight number 674 enroute to Muscat from Jeddah was diverted to Riyadh after a passenger developed a medical condition. In a statement to the media, the airline said the captain decided to land the flight at Riyadh King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the nearest airport given the emergency. Medical assistance was duly coordinated prior to arrival at the airport and the airline crew did everything they could, but sadly, the guest succumbed after arrival. “Oman Air expresses its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,” the statement added.

As many as 197 passengers were on board the Airbus 330 aircraft, which later took off from Muscat. In October this year, an Oman Air flight enroute to Dar es Salam had to make an emergency stopover in Mombasa, Kenya, following a medical emergency, while a Chennai-bound Oman Air flight from Muscat made an emergency landing at airport in Dabolim after a woman passenger was taken ill in July this year. Recently, last month, an Oman Air flight on the Delhi-Muscat route was diverted to Karachi in Pakistan to provide medical assistance to a passenger.
