By Sports Reporter — MUSCAT: Jan. 23 - As part of the efforts to improve the services provided in Muscat with regards to meter reading and bill distribution for electricity and water, Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC) signed agreements with several companies yesterday. The total amount of these contracts is about RO 15 million, for a period of four years, starting from January 1. The first contract was signed with Al Taawoos Industrial Services, which will serve the subscribers of operational zone-1 that includes Muttrah, Muscat, Amerat and Qurayat.

The second contract was signed with National Electricity Centre and it will serve the customers of operational zone-2 of Bausher. The third contract was signed with Oman Investment and Finance company (OIFC) and will serve the subscribers of operational zone-3 of Seeb. These projects, which are implemented by MEDC, come under a comprehensive development programme for the customer services in Muscat. The event was held in the presence of Mohammed bin Abdullah al Mahrouqi, president, Public Authority for Electricity and Water, and a number of officials.

The change in the strategy of meter reading and bill distribution follow a study and preparations of the last two years. The contract will help improve the services offered by MEDC in Muscat governorate. Abdullah bin Saeed al Badri, CEO, MEDC, said that “the company for the first time has awarded three contracts for meter reading and bills distribution to different contractors in the Muscat operational zone. Previously, it was assigned to a single service provider. Therefore, this new procedure gives an opportunity for specialised locals and overseas companies to compete in providing the best services to both MEDC and its customers.”
